Festival of Nuestra Señora de Regla

 
With the motive of the holiday of the Virgin of Regla (September 8th) in it's own front area of the Sanctuary that was named after her, is celebrated every year a festival that traditionally signifies the end of the summer season

This festival is becoming a summer tourist favorite, it is an appropriate place to enjoy a glass of local wine and has a great atmosphere for dancing sevillanas. The town council offers, for the entertainment or old and young alike, performances that last throughout the 5 days of the festival. .

Hermandad del Cautivo

Siempre existió en Chipiona la procesión de los Dolores, la cual era organizada por la feligresía de esta Parroquia. Pero fue en 1960 cuando un grupo de hombres encabezados por el entonces párroco D. Angel Romero Castellanos, hoy canónigo de nuestra Diócesis, los que tuvieron la feliz idea de crear una Hermandad, viendo la decadencia que estaba tomando dichas salidas, improcedente al cariño con que esta imagen contaba.

Hermandad Cristo de las Misericordias

Esta Hermandad, aunque data de fecha inmemorial, se vio acentuada su devoción popular el 1 de noviembre de 1755, debido al maremoto de Lisboa que sacudió enérgicamente nuestras costas. Ante el peligro de sucumbir la población bajo las aguas, los fieles devotos de aquella época, sacaron la imagen del Santísimo Cristo de las Misericordias en rogativa hasta un punto cercano que da al mar. Las aguas bajaron de nivel seguidamente, por lo que fue considerado por la población como un milagro. 

 Pilgrimage of the Pinar

It's origin goes back to the country fairs held in the 60's to celebrate the end of the grape harvests. Today it has become a Pilgrimage celebrated the second Sunday in June where the Image of the Virgin of Regla of the Pinar is lead from the Sanctuary of Regla to it's Hermitage in the Pinar of Peritanda, some 4 Kilometers from town.

Virgen of Carmen 

Aunque no tenemos datos sobre la antigüedad ni del autor de la Imagen de la Virgen del Carmen de la Parroquia de Chipiona, sabemos que la actual es una transformación de la Virgen Pastora que tenia su retablo hasta 1931 donde actualmente está el Cautivo, y que se restauró por los años 50.

Desde muy antiguo, los hombres de la mar han tenido una gran devoción a María. La veneración y el culto a la Santísima Virgen en varias advocaciones ha sido tradicional entre las gentes de la mar, posiblemente por ser gente que vive y se adentra en un medio natural en el que peligro está siempre al acecho, y en sus horas difíciles estas advocaciones fueron siempre un socorro para ellos.

Carnival in Chipiona

The Carnival in Chipiona is without doubt the festival that represents our town the most. It's celebrated in the month of February and coincides with the date of the festival held in the capital of the province. Even though it's official duration is just 10 days, for at least a month before there are activities being held in the peñas and by various organizations.

During the festival there are many activities where visitors are offered, for free, the best and most typical foods from the area. The musical groups roaming the streets offering their songs full of ingenuity and art plus the exhilarating final of the Grand Parade, a colorful exposition participated by thousands of people, make this an obligatory festival to visit.
